It's been several months, but Vernon RCMP have now laid charges against a 37-year-old woman for fatal crash back in October.

On October 23rd at around 1 a.m., Vernon RCMP responded to the report of a crash at 30th Avenue and 32nd Street. Early indications in the investigations reported that a van had driven through a red light and struck a car on the driver's side.

The driver of the car, 33-year-old Erin Rae Smith of Kelowna, died at the scene. Her passenger, a Vernon woman in her 30s was transported to Kelowna General Hospital, and was in hospital for at least several days following the accident.

Charges were being considered for the driver of the van for being under the influence of liquor, and Vernon RCMP announced Tuesday that, after a long investigation, 37-year-old Lori Victoria Vance has been charged under the Criminal Code in relation to impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.

Vance will appear in court on March 19th.
