The province has created a new airport infrastructure program and Kelowna’s airport will most likely be used for the program.
The program, called B.C. Air Access has $24 million in funding to be used over the next three years and will fund a variety of airport expansion projects. According to Transportation Minister Todd Stone, Kelowna International Airport (YLW) will be an ideal candidate for funding and continued expansions.

“It could potentially receive funding under this program for an expansion of the terminal, upgrades to the runway, lighting and so on,” explained Stone. “These improvements will allow airports to accommodate larger aircraft and more frequent flights, supporting the continued growth of local and provincial economies.”
The program encourages funding partnerships with the federal government, local, and regional government agencies, as well as the private sector. On Tuesday, March 31st, 2015, an announcement will take place at YLW as $55.6 million in construction projects will be revealed. The open house will run from 1:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.
It is expected that some of the projects will be funded under the new B.C. Air Access program.
