Family Out of Their Home After Rutland Townhouse Goes Up in Flames

A fire early Sunday morning forced a Kelowna family out of their home.

The fire department responded just after midnight on Sunday to multiple reports of a fire on the roof of a townhouse complex in Rutland. When crews arrived at the 100 block of Kneller Rd off Highway 33, they found flames going up the front of a unit in a 10 unit, two storey townhouse complex. The bright flames had made their way all the way up the attic.

Firefighters worked quickly to knock down the fire. Only one unit was affected by the blaze.

Emergency Support Services arrived at the townhouse shortly, and they found accommodations for two adults, one child, and a dog.

Firefighters do not yet know the cause of the fire, and investigators will be on the scene later on Sunday.
