Funding Awarded to Young Philanthropists in the Okanagan

Young philanthropists in the Okanagan were awarded funding grants that will help them make a difference in their community.

Central Okanagan Foundation for Youth (COFFY) and United Way Gennext joined forces to offer Youth Initiative Grants for up to $2,000.

“We recognized a need and the positive impact the collaboration can have on our youth and made it happen,” said Cheryl Miller, Director of Grants & Community Initiatives with the Central Okanagan Foundation.

The several applicants throughout the Okanagan that have already received funding for their 2015 projects include Osoyoos Secondary School, Bankhead Elementary, YMCA Okanagan; Enactus Okanagan College, Son Valley Fellowship Church, and CRIS Adaptive Adventures.

These grants are available to young people up to age 25 who are partnering with an organization to create positive change in their local community.

The partner organization can be a school, church or charity and youth must reside in either the Central or South Okanagan Similkameen in order to apply.

“It’s really wonderful to see two youth and young professional lead groups like COFFY and Gennext collaborate on this initiative,” said Shelley Gilmore, Executive Director of United Way CSO. “Engaging the next generation of youth to follow in their footsteps to be active and engaged in the community and then making this funding accessible to bring it together is a very good thing for our community.”

Youth Initiative Grant funding will be available January 2016. Contact Molly at molly@centralokanaganfoundation.com with any inquires.
