UPDATE: RCMP has located the man believed to be responsible for the hit and run at the Lakeview Market in the Kelowna Mission area.

A 30-year-old man was driving on Cedar Avenue towards Pandosy Street when he ran a red light. The man, who was driving a Ford Explorer, hit a taxi waiting at the light on Pandosy. According to police he then turned into the parking lot at the Market and did not stop. The man drove through the window of the store, backed up and then fled the scene. He was located in the McCulloch area and arrested by police. The man faces a number of criminal and motor vehicle charges as a result.

There is no word as to why the accident occurred or if drugs or alcohol were factors.

Just before 11:00 a.m. a vehicle drove through the glass doors at the front of the market and then sped away from the scene. According to Meat Manager Brad Struck, an employee was lucky she wasn’t harmed during the incident.

“It was business as usual and I was out back when it happened,” explained Struck. “We had a cashier working at the till and it missed her by maybe eight inches.”

A bottle nearly missed hitting her added Struck.

“It hit the windshield so hard that it busted the till screen that she was working at, and I haven’t seen her since.”

Struck says that the cashier is extremely shaken but otherwise unharmed and she was told to take a moment to collect herself. The driver took off immediately after they rammed into the building. The Market is still open for business as the clean-up is well underway. RCMP is investigating the incident and looking for the suspect.
