The Cold Didn’t Keep People Away from Kelowna Yacht Club’s Boat Show

Saturday had a dismal forecast and rain kept sprinkling from the sky, but that didn’t mean that the Kelowna Yacht Club’s annual Boat and Leisure Show wasn’t well attended.

The annual free event generally draws thousands from all over the Okanagan Valley, and those diehards weren’t going to let a bit of cold stop them. People still flocked to the marina on Kelowna’s shores, checking out the more than 40 exhibitors and more than 150 boats. The event offered some special boat show shopping, meaning that people were walking the docks to find the perfect boat for them.

The show also allowed the public to explore the new Kelowna Yacht Club building for the first time, taking in the winding staircase, nautically themed decorations, and gorgeous views from the deck. The Zamboni Brothers were booked to entertain the crowd on the deck over the marina, letting people enjoy the sounds from outside or with some food and drinks upstairs.

Fees that exhibitors pay help to maintain the 32 mooring buoys anchored in locations between the bridge and Caesar’s Landing. These buoys allow boats to have secure anchorage when they’re out for the day, tied up for the weekend, or sheltering from a storm.

The show might have better luck on Sunday with the weather, and it’s open at 10 a.m. each day.
