Get Ready For the Push to End Homelessness in Kelowna

Downtown Kelowna is set to get taken over by shopping carts, and it’s for an excellent cause.

The 4th annual Arthur Cottie Push to End Homelessness is coming up quickly on Saturday, May 23rd. This annual fundraising event is for Inn From the Cold (IFTC), raising much needed funds for their programs and services such as the emergency winter shelter, housing program, and homelessness prevention program.

IFTC announced in February that they’d have to close the temporary winter shelter early because of lack of funds, though local MLAs helped find one-time emergency funding to keep the doors open.

Push to End Homelessness begins at the IFTC emergency winter shelter, and teams race across the city while finishing “minute to win it” challenges along the way. The event finishes with a community barbeque in Kerry Park with live music and prizes.

“The Push is the most fun that you could have at a charity fundraising event—seriously some of the most fun I’ve had,” recalls Vanessa, a race competitor from previous years. She gathered pledges with her friends to compete, and all funds went to support IFTC’s programs.

“Not only was the event itself fun,” says Vanessa “but it was awesome to get to talk to random people passing by. They would ask what we were doing, and we could tell them not just what, but WHY we were doing it too.”

You still have time to register your team and collect pledges. Get together with your co-workers, classmates, or friends to support IFTC’s work.

You can find more information and register at Inn From the Cold’s website or by calling 250-448-6403.
