The newest Maxmillion winner is a 24-year-old Kelowna resident.
Brittany Powell says that she’s been playing Lotto Max since she was 19 years old, and it has certainly paid off. In the Friday, May 29, 2015 draw, Powell won a $1 million Maxmillion prize. This huge win is surreal for the young Kelowna resident.
“I still can’t believe I won $1,000,000. I’m thrilled and I’m going through the motions but the reality is yet to sink in,” said Powell.

The young woman was at a gas station filling up her car with friends when she decided to check her Lotto Max ticket. The group was completely unprepared for what happened next. “All of a sudden bells started going off. I was excited because I thought maybe I had won $50,000 and could pay off my Jeep but I couldn’t believe it when the clerk told me I had won $1 million,” recalled Powell.
Powell says that her very first purchase with the new money will be a meal and drink from her favourite pub. As for bigger purchases, Powell plans to spend some of the winnings on a backpacking trip as well as pay off some big bills, including her Jeep.
Her winning ticket was bought in Cache Creek at the Copper Canyon Chevron. Powell had decided to do a “Free Play”, hoping to get some positive from it.
This new Kelowna millionaire is the fifth Maxmillion winner in B.C. in the last 30 days. The Lotto Max draw on June 5th is for a $50 million jackpot, plus 50 Maxmillions.
