Fruit Tree Project Picking Up to 1000 Pounds a Week

The Okanagan Fruit Tree Project has taken root in Kelowna. This volunteer-based organization began four years ago out of a desire to gather the local fruit that was falling prey to the wind rather than being harvested for those who could use it. Now they pick up to and sometimes in excess of 1,000 pounds of fruit per week. Lauren Hjalmarson spoke with Casey Hamilton about how the Project got started and where things are at now.

The Fruit Tree Project is now requesting tree owners to contact them at least two to three weeks ahead of the date that they would like to schedule a pick. Casey also says that classifieds can be useful for self-organization.
