Accent Inns Helping KGH Newborns with ‘Doctor Ducks’ and $4K Donation

The Kelowna General Hospital is getting closer to unveiling the new perinatal unit, and the community is reaching out in support.

Accent Inn has created limited edition ‘Doctor Ducks’ for the KGH Foundation’s ‘Giving Giggles’ Campaign.

“We thought, what a better way to raise awareness for KGH and the Giving Giggles campaign than a special Doctor Duck” notes John Espley, Director of Marketing for Accent Inns, in a statement. “Accent Inns is a family business that believes in supporting families.

“The KGH Perinatal Unit is all about giving children and families a great healthy start to life and to us. That means everything.”

All proceeds will go to purchasing the best, life-saving equipment on the new unit so they can provide a better level of care for expectant moms and fragile newborns.

Besides the ducks, Accent Inns has also donated $4,000, plus prizing for a KGH Foundation Facebook campaign asking folks to submit short videos of their giggling babies to win a trip for four to Victoria.

“We are so grateful to corporate donors such as Accent Inns”, says Siobhan McManus, Senior Development Officer for the KGH Foundation, also in a statement. “Their support is really integral to the success of the ‘Giving Giggle’s campaign.”

Accent Inns will also be offering complimentary stays at their hotels for family members of those receiving treatment at KGH.

The new Perinatal Unit will open officially on March 6th.

There are more than 1,600 babies born at KGH each year, and the new unit will allow newborns, expectant mothers and their families to remain close to home more often.

The space will replace the existing labour and delivery unit and will include single patient post-partum rooms and an upgraded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
