The 35th annual Spaghetti Bridge Building competition took place at Okanagan College, Friday afternoon. The defending Heavyweight winners, Justin Dessert and Hanya Riddick once again took home first place after withstanding 223.61kg of load on the Colleges Fettucine Fault Line.
The Grade 9 Duo was rewarded with $1,500 as top prize and the pair has agreed to attempt a Spaghetti Bridge three-peat in next years competition.
Dessert's older brother in grade 12 also competed in the competition, finishing with second place, recording 159.39kg before the bridge exploded.
Justin and James weren’t the only Desserts thrilling the crowd. Their sister Julia took top spot in the Secondary category.
The team of Keyvan Khadem, Gavin Saini, Ahmed Ramadan, Harvey Mann, and Jordan L of Okanagan College settled for third place after their bridge crumbled early on under 36.48 kg of load.
“Today’s competition came off without a hitch,” says event organizer Michelle Lowry. “Congratulations to all the competitors – they represented themselves and their schools so well. We saw a lot of good sportsmanship and good citizenship today.”
