The Kelowna Fire Department was called out to a blaze at the Glenmore Landfill early this morning.

It’s the second time in nine days crews have responded to a fire at the site.

The calls came in around 1 am and the first-arriving officer reported a 50- by 75- foot fire with three- to four-foot flames.

“Landfill staff and firefighters worked together to extinguish the fire,” explained KFD Platoon Capt. Scott Clarke.

Clarke says there were no injuries to firefighters or the public. The cause is unknown, but it’s not considered suspicious.

The KFD responded to this call with three engines, a water tender, a deputy chief and a command unit, along with 14 personnel.

The Salvation Army, BC Ambulance Service, one piece of heavy equipment and a water tender from the landfill also assisted in the response.
