An already unfortunate situation could have been a lot worse if not for a member of the Okanagan Forest Task Force on Thursday night.
It was shortly after 9 pm that Rod Tribiger, who was doing patrols in the area, came across a truck fire up Postill Lake Road.
When Tribiger arrived at the scene, there was a sleeping man inside the flaming vehicle.
A video posted by OFTF founder Kane Blake detailed the worrisome situation.
“There was someone in that truck,” Blake says, grasping for breath in the video. “We got him out in time. He was asleep in the cab, but he’s out now.”
Blake praised the Ellison Fire Department (EFD) for getting to the scene quickly and joining forces with the OFTF to prevent the fire from spreading.
“The EFD filled our water tank with the water tender and helped make our refills easy and fast,” he explained.
“The fire had spread to one tree as well as the ground. We were able to put everything out before it spread further into the backcountry.”
The truck was completely destroyed, unsurprisingly, but quick action from the OFTF and EFD prevented potential catastrophic injury to the man as well as a wildfire.
