A tuition increase is in the works for Okanagan College this fall.
The College’s Board of Governors recently approved a 2% increase for domestic students in the coming year.
That means a Canadian student taking a full semester of five university arts lectures will see an increase of $33.42, bumping the semester’s full tuition to $1,704.73.
International students will see a 5.9% increase in tuition for arts, business, science, and English as a Second Language courses.
A 2% increase will be applied to all other courses for international students.
The increase comes even after enrollment numbers have climbed by more than 4% between September of 2016 and September of 2017.
Across all campuses, Okanagan College had 8,463 students registered in programs and courses compared to 8,089 in September 2016.
“The increase in tuition is one of the mechanisms we have to keep pace with the impact of tuition on our budget and support much-needed additional services,” explains Okanagan College Board Chair Chris Derickson.
According to Okanagan College, the increase for international students will keep tuition in the mid-range of those charged by other colleges in British Columbia.
