A woman was hurt in Kelowna last night after her horse became frightened by a fire and ended up knocking her over and dragging her across the ground.
The unfortunate accident occurred while emergency crews were battling a fire near Kelowna International Airport.
Mounties and firefighters were called to reports of a semi tractor on fire just before midnight near Fathers Place and Postill Drive.
A KelownaNow reader also reported seeing more than one ambulance.
The RCMP explained that a resident in the area was fighting the fire with multiple extinguishers and buckets of water.
Firefighters succeeded in killing the blaze, which was not deemed suspicious.
But while they were doing so, a woman close by was hurt by her frightened horse.
The RCMP explained: “While emergency crews were actioning the fire, an unfortunate situation unfolded nearby.
“A neighbour sustained non-life threatening injuries while tending to her horses who were obviously stressed and disturbed by the fire.
“The adult woman was knocked to the ground and dragged for some distance by one of the horses.”
She was taken to hospital for treatment.
