Vernon Museum to Upgrade Archives With $100,000 in Funding

Several community buildings in the North Okanagan will receive federal funding to upgrade infrastructure.

Announced on Monday by Member of Parliament for Okanagan-Shuswap Colin Mayes, over $160,000 will go toward six projects under the government’s Community Infrastructure Program.

In neighbouring Vernon, both the Vernon Curling and Athletic Club and the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) will be the proponents of over $100,000 in funding for community organizations.

A total of $100,000 has been allocated to the RDNO in order to upgrade the Greater Vernon Museum and Archives, and the Vernon Curling and Athletic Club will receive $23,276 in order to replace the club’s existing shingled roof.

“The Museum plays a vital role in our community. I am so grateful that we are able to help safeguard our history due to the contribution from the Canada 150 program,” said Juliette Cunningham, Committee Chair for Greater Vernon Advisory.

Other beneficiaries of this federal funding include the Salmon Arm Curling Club, the Eagle Valley Snowmobile Club, the Cherryville Community Club, and the Cedar Heights Community Association.
