Two houses and a motorhome have been lost in a major fire in Vernon.
Firefighters said a second motorhome was also seriously damaged during the blaze in the 7200 block of Longacre Drive.
“During the initial fire response, there was an explosion that occurred. The fire continued to extend into the rest of the home and into the roof of a neighbouring house,” said Deputy Fire Chief Russ Friesen.
He added: “This has been a tragic event, however, we are grateful to say that all occupants of both homes were safely evacuated and the residents are now receiving assistance through Emergency Support Services (ESS).”
Firefighters were sent to the fire at about 12:45 this morning.
They were later helped by firefighters from Coldstream, BX Swan Lake and Armstrong.
It took about 30 firefighters to prevent the blaze from spreading, Friesen explained.
“We would like to thank our neighbouring fire departments for their assistance during this event,” he added.
One firefighter was injured during the incident, but has since been released from hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
Friesen said the cause of the fire remains unknown, but an investigation will be carried out.
Firefighters remain at the scene to deal with hot spots.
