Lost Snowboarder in Whistler Survives Three Nights in Backcountry

A snowboarder that was last seen on in Whistler on Wednesday morning was found on Saturday after she spent three nights in the backcountry.

Julie Abrahamsen was reported missing on mid-day Friday, and she was last seen on Wednesday morning going up the Glacier Expresss chairlift at 11 a.m. on Blackcomb Mountain. A search began with Whistler search and rescue and the ski patrol at the mountain, which went all day Friday and continued again Saturday morning.

Search teams used dogs and a helicopter to find the missing young woman, and eventually searchers found a track in the backcountry. Those who followed the trail found Abrahamsen at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Wedge Creek. Her condition was reported by Whistler RCMP to be good, though she was obviously cold.

Officials took Abrahamsen out by helicopter, taking her to medical treatment after spending three nights by herself in the backcountry.
