B.C. Lottery Corporation Welcomes New President and Celebrates 30th

The B.C. Lottery Corporation is celebrating its 30th birthday, as well as welcoming a new president on Wednesday.

The BCLC was born on April 1st, 1985, when former premier Bill Bennett conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Crown Corporation’s headquarters in Kamloops.

In its infancy, the corporation started out as a lottery-only business with two weekly games.

Growing into adulthood, the BCLC operates 17 casinos, seven commercial bingo halls, 18 community gaming centres and nearly 3,800 retail locations.

Working as a large financial contributor in our province, the BCLC provides approximately 37,000 direct and indirect jobs. As well, the BCLC contributed $1.17 billion to the Province in 2013-2014, which supports a range of programs and services, including education and health care.

During a time of growth and change, the BCLC has appointed a new President and Chief Executive Officer, who will also be based in Kamloops.

"The Board of Directors believes Jim Lightbody is the best person to lead this organization in this time of renewal," said Bud Smith, Board Chair, BCLC. "He has demonstrated strong leadership in the last 14 months as interim CEO. That combined with his understanding of the organization, his commitment to innovation and to employee engagement make him the ideal person to lead the organization going forward."

Mr. Lightbody has been with the corporation for 14 years, and he has more than 25 years of experience in consumer packaged goods. He has also held leadership positions with Procter & Gambler, Nabob Foods, and B.C. Hot House.
