The Venables Valley Fire has doubled in size and is now burning at an estimated 20 hectares.

The fire is burning south of Ashcroft and west of Highway 1 and was discovered Saturday morning by Kamloops Fire Centre crews. The cause is still under investigation.

Highway 1 may be closed intermittently while airtankers drop retardant.

Local music festival attendees were moved out of the area as a precaution, but there is no immediate threat to any structures.

There are currently 31 firefighters, three air tankers and one helicopter battling the blaze.
