Employers sponsoring apprentices and trades students will be happy to hear of a new funding announcement.
$1 million in private funding from LNG Canada will help employers hire the best possible employees ever. Employers who have committed to hiring a graduate, or are looking to upgrade training for employees, or who are sponsoring an apprentice may apply to this funding.
Along with tuition, the funding can be applied to other student fees like textbooks and software. Wages lost and housing will not be included in this funding.
The LNG Canada Trades Training fund is administered by the BC Construction Association. The cash will support all trades but priority will be given to 15 high demand trades in British Columbia.
The trades include Steam/pipefitters, Sprinkler System Installers, Welders, Carpenters, Gas Fitter, Heavy Equipment Operators, Electricians, Ironworkers, Sheet Metal Workers, Heavy Mechanical Trades, Millwrights, Plumbers, Machinists, and Construction Craft Workers.
“This new Trades Training Fund is exciting news, particularly for employers, but also for our students and potential students looking to pursue an apprenticeship,” said Steve Moores, Dean of Trades and Apprenticeship at Okanagan College.
Ten of the 15 trades included in the funding are offered at Okanagan College.
The money will be paid directly to the school providing the training and applications can be found here.
Applications first became available on October 15th and will be open until further notice.
