Kane Blake said it went from “a boring night” to a shot of adrenaline real quick when he stumbled upon a truck fire up Postill Road on Friday night.
The Okanagan Forest Task Force founder was in the backcountry with other volunteers from the group when they stumbled upon the troubling sight shortly before 11 pm.
It was initially just a small blaze inside the pickup, but it did not take long for the vehicle to become fully engulfed in flames.
Blake and company were going to try and extinguish the flames themselves, but quickly adjusted their plan as the situation became more serious and called the authorities.
The RCMP attended the scene and the BC Wildfire Service was notified.
Blake said he and the other volunteers left when police gave them the all-clear and the small bush fire was contained at that point.
According to Blake, the vehicle was not stolen and belonged to someone who was out checking trail cams and unfortunately returned to his truck being torched.
There’s no indication as to what started the fire, but KelownaNow will update this story if that information becomes available.
