West Kelowna Warriors Beat Out Trail Smoke Eaters in Over Time

Scoring an epic overtime goal for the West Kelowna Warriors, Jason Cotton beat out Brett Clark from the Trail Smoke Eaters with only four minutes left in the game on Tuesday night. Held at the Royal Lepage Place, the four on four session was a real head-turner.

The first period opened up a little uneasy following a few whistles, but the teams got down to it after the first break. Tanner Campbell scored the first goal for the Warriors on a rebound in the first period, and the Warriors managed to maintain their lead in the second period with a 2-0 score.

Putting on the pressure, the Smoke Eaters managed to snatch three quick goals as Max Newton brought the score up to 2-1 on a deflection, then Kienan Scott managed to score a couple of nice goals over Scott Patton, bringing the score up to 3-2 for the Eaters.

With only two minutes left in the 2nd period, Kyle Marino grabbed the puck from Kylar Hope and managed to tie up the game.

The third period was a tie up through and through as nobody from either team managed to get a goal, but the Warriors controlled the final period out-shooting trail 14-4.

In overtime, the Warriors couldn't get a goal on an early OT power-play, but in the final minute Hope raced to the net. The puck popped out in the slot, but Cotton was there waiting and ready for a top shelf victory.

The win leaves the Warriors tied with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, who won 4-3 in double overtime on Tuesday. The Silverbacks will take on the Merritt Centennials on Friday at the Shaw Centre, where the winner will more than likely clinch one of the final two berths.

Saturday will be the final day of the regular season, as the Surrey Eagles visit the Warriors at the Royal Lepage Place. Salmon Arm will head to Penticton for a 6:00 p.m. game at the SOEC, and the Trail Smoke Eaters will be in Merritt.
