Winterhawks Tie Series with 3-2 Win


The Portland Winterhawks tied the series at one win each after defeating the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in game two of the best of seven.

Portland for the second game in a row scored the first goal of the game, this one on the power-play late in the first. The shots were 13-12 in favour of Portland.


The Winterhawks extended their lead after Dominic Turgeon scored his 7th of the playoffs on Jackson Whistle just past the midway mark of the second.


Rourke Chartier rifled a one timer past Adin Hill while on the power-play. A second Rockets power-play goal two minutes later tied the score at two. Dillon Dube one timed a Merkley pass to give him his second of the playoffs.


With less than a minute to go in the second, Nicolas Petan weaved his way in front of Jackson Whistle and did a Denis Savard spin-o-rama and found the back of the net making it 3-2 to end the second period.


The Rockets outshot the Winterhawks 18-10 in the second.

In the third no goals were scored and shots were 10-9 for the Rockets. With the net empty that Rockets did manage to get one high quality shot that Hill snagged.

The series now shifts to Portland for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Game five will be held at Prospera Place in Kelowna next Friday night with tickets going on sale on Monday morning through www.selectyourtickets.com, at the box office or 250-762-5050.
