The Vees took the Portage Terriers 4-3 on Saturday night at the Casman Centre. The Penticton team opened up the scoring in the first with Riley Alferd cleaning up a rebound at 7:01. However, the Terriers tied it up only six minutes later with their own rebound by Taylor Friesen. The end of the first saw some controversy as the Vees believed they had another goal from Alferd poking it through, but the referee waved off the goal.
Penticton kept it up in the second, breaking the 1-1 tie early on just as a power play was finishing up. Just as the Terriers player was getting out of the penalty box, Dante Fabbro got in a neat wrist shot. Steen Cooper then expanded the lead to two with a power play shot late in the second. However, the Terriers struck back with a goal only 25 seconds later, making it 3-2 going into the third.

The Vees were still leading late in the third when Terriers player Zach Waldvogel snagged a six-on-four power play goal with just a minute left to go.
Despite this setback, the Vees brought it back in the extra time with Connor Chartier becoming the Vees’ overtime hero. He poked a loose puck past the goaltender just three minutes into the overtime frame, winning the Western Canada Cup championship for the Vees.
Goalie Hunter Miska was Player of the Game for the Vees, stopping 35 of 37 shots with several impressive saves.
The Vees are now coming back to Penticton before leaving on Thursday for the RBC Cup, which runs May 9th to 17th.
