Be Careful on the Roads, It's a Foggy One in the Interior

Well it's certainly not too cold outside, but it would be nice if we could see where we're going. Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory for the Central Okanagan, including Kelowna, on Tuesday morning.

Encompassing Cariboo, East Columbia, 100 Mile, Kootenay region, the Valley, Prince George, Shuswap, Similkameen, and the West Kootenays, a persistent fog with near zero visibility is rolling in.

According to Environment Canada, a strong temperature inversion is the culprit for Tuesday morning's dense fog, which developed over the southern and central interior valleys late Monday night. The fog is expected to continue until midway through Tuesday.

Visibility is expected to be severely reduced in certain areas—travellers are warned to prepare for the road ahead on this foggy day.

On Monday, there were several flight delays and cancellations at Kelowna International airport due to this foggy situation. Late Monday evening, Kelowna airport tweeted that the fog had lifted and flights were preparing for take-off.

Despite the blanket of fog this morning, it appears that most YLW flights are on time. However, there are always exceptions. As of 5:05 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Air Canada flight 8313 to Vancouver has been cancelled, along with Alaska flight 2429 to Seattle, and WestJet flight 3130 to Fort McMurray.

Coming inbound, the only flight cancellation is Air Canada flight 8422 from Vancouver. Although the fog might be justification for these flight cancellations, it was not confirmed by YLW. It's always a good idea to check out the YLW website for flight status before heading out.
