If you saw a hole in the sky you aren’t going crazy, the phenomenon was real and it happened near Kelowna.
A Hole Punch or Fallstreak hole appeared over Kelowna last week on February 18th and it produced two large holes in the sky. The phenomenon was captured on satellite imaging by the US National Weather Service in Spokane Washington. The 14 second video shows the two distinct hole punch clouds that could be seen in East Kelowna.

The hole punch cloud occurs when water temperature in the clouds is below freezing but the water has not frozen yet due to the lack of ice nucleation particles. It is believed that the introduction of a large number of tiny ice crystals into the cloud layer sets off the effect of evaporation which creates the hole.
A resident even posted a photo of the cool natural event online that clearly shows the holes in the sky. Did you see the hole punch? We’d love to see your photos!
