Kelowna boasts some delicious international cuisine, including a few must-try Mexican restaurants. These authentic, local, family-run restaurants provide a taste of Mexico, right here in the Okanagan.
These three restaurants have clearly given Kelowna residents something to taco ‘bout, since they were voted as the best in Kelowna last year!
If you’ve been to Hector’s Casa before, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that it has taken home Gold for the past four years in a row.
Hector and his wife Laurie moved to Kelowna from Mexico and opened Hector’s Casa in 1999. The restaurant was then purchased by a couple from Mexico City, Paco and Karina, in 2011. They still run the business to this day, with the help of their three kids and Hector’s son.
Hector’s Casa, located on Pandosy Street, serves a variety of authentic Mexican dishes, desserts and killer margaritas. In the summer, the outdoor patio hidden behind the restaurant will make you feel like you’ve been transported right to Mexico!
Try the Combinación Mexicana, Fajitas, Enchiladas and Churros Con Chocolate for dessert.
Latin Fiesta - Dos Chiles Restaurant, is a popular, hole-in-the-wall style restaurant in Rutland. It has taken home Silver for the past four years and also won Bronze for Best Cheap Eats three years in a row.
Latin Fiesta - Dos Chiles offers Mexican and Salvadorian cuisine, and patrons love its authentic dishes, fast service and reasonable prices.
Try the Fiesta Burritos and Enchilada Platter for meals that won’t disappoint.
El Taquero, located in downtown Kelowna, took home Bronze for its second year in a row last year. The modern and quaint restaurant was opened by Izzy, after spending years sharing a taste of his home, Mexico City, with friends by hosting taco nights.
El Taquero specializes in delicious tacos inspired by traditional Mexican street-side taco stands, and incorporate many of Izzy’s family recipes.
Try any of the tacos, and a fresh shaken margarita to help wash them down.
