On Saturday, January 30th, local rock band The Newks will reunite to perform at downtown Kelowna’s Habitat.
The gig will be the band’s first Kelowna appearance in over 12 months - The Newks split last January when lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Austin Axenty moved to Victoria - and it could well be their last performance for considerably longer.
Regular readers may recall that the talented band released their debut EP, Grandfathers, in the fall of 2014. You can check out that musical frolic below (“Goodbye Juliana” is a personal favourite from the release):
At the time of writing, there are still advance tickets available for January 30th’s gig. However, waiting and hoping to get tickets at the door may be a risky endeavour, as I’m confident that this is going to be a popular show, so buy your tickets soon! Advance tickets are $5 and can be purchased online or at Mosaic Books (if you want to take your chances and buy tickets at the door, they will be $10 each).
The Newks is Austin Axenty, Charlie Tucker (lead guitar), Douglas Canning (bass) and Jordan Garcha (drums). Listen to them live here:
The Newks play downtown Kelowna’s Habitat in a one-off reunion gig on January 30th. Doors at 8pm. Show at 9pm. The Kinky Pinks, an Okanagan folk rock act, will open the night.
