Kettle Valley Public on Main Bar & Grill at #100 – 5305 Main Street in Kettle Valley has new owners and has completely renovated the premises. Now, owned and operated by Pam and Mike Turgeon, who reside in Kettle Valley, Dave and Michelle Holland and Scott McLean, the day to day operations are managed by Pam. The restaurant has been completely renovated with new modern paint colours, booths, tables, chairs, art work and TV’s. Co-chef’s Robin Roy and Vince Miller have created an inspired menu of burgers, entrees, appies and salads. Their most popular menu items are Stuffed Yorkies, Sweet Chilli Crispy Chicken Wrap, Signature Burger, Ginger Chicken Rice Bowl and Schnitzel. We tried the Rack of BBQ Ribs and Schnitzel and both were delicious with generous portions and are reasonably priced. The signature Turtle Cheesecake dessert is fabulously smooth and not too sweet. The restaurant is fully licensed and families are welcome. Kristi Robarts is the bar manager. Public on Main has 80 seats inside and a patio that seats 40. Eat in or take out. Open Tuesday to Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at 11:00 for brunch. Closed Mondays.

After a life filled with travel and adventure, local Edith H. Lavroff who always indulged her passion for history and learning as she moved throughout the world and living in more than 15 countries has published her first novel. Edith went back to school in her fifties and earned a BA in English literature with an extended minor in Psychology from SFU while taking courses in history, archeology and astronomy. After retiring, Edith spent 17 years leading classes on ancient civilizations at the Society for Learning in Retirement. At the age of 83, Edith’s autobiography and novel Kismet was born. From the few previous lines, you can imagine its incredible content. It’s a novel about WWII war years, a story of romance and love that turned into a horrendous battle, children and the ancient history of the places she lived. It is fairly light-hearted but no life is without its tragedies. Kismet takes you on an absorbing, emotionally gripping tour of times and places that many of us will never see or that no longer exists as they once were. A must read. Order at www.edithlavroff.com or Amazon or Indigo.
