Recess to de-stress: UBCO students unwind before finals

The UBC Okanagan Students' Union hosted their annual end of semester outdoor show on Friday night entitled Recess. And long story short, it was lit.

Thousands of students got on their best rave wear and headed to the university to party it up one final time before cracking down for exams.

What better way to let loose than dancing with your friends alongside three hot Canadian acts?

UBCO and their student's union are notorious for putting on shows that are rad as hell and Recess 2017 was no exception.

To get the night started, local DJ’s spun some of today's most popular tracks while mixing in their own personal flare before 20-year-old Canadian rapper Roy Woods took to the stage.

New to the game, Roy Woods brought a freshness to his set that was much needed and highly applauded.

Much like a young Drizzy, Woods’ musical style features heavy and catchy beats against smooth vocals, making him an instant hit with the crowd.

Up next was Canadian trio Keys N Krates. But the crowd was going insane before they even hit the stage.

A unique group, Keys N Krates is an electronic band. Yes, BAND! The team consists of a drummer who plays on an electric kit, a keyboardist, and a turntablist. If you’re like me and didn’t know who these guys were before, well you definitely would after seeing their show.

Interstellar synth-packed ambiance met with the crashing of cymbals and scratching of a turntable, Keys N Krates transported the crowd from the 90’s to mercury and back to recess in a quick hour - and the fans were loving it.

Up next came a duo that needed no introduction: Zeds Dead - yet another glorious treasure in the Canadian EDM scene.

Returning to the Recess stage once again, fans already knew they were in for an explosive performance.

“What’s Up Kelowna!” shouted the duo as they rushed the stage, and from that moment on it was sheer madness.

Fire mixes, Dubstep that made the speakers rattle like jackhammers and lights that completely bewitched the audience, Zeds Dead absolutely annihilated their set, as always.

Regularly enticing the crowd to get louder and flashing their signature hand sign, the audience and their voices were no match to the party-like atmosphere Zeds Dead created.

Proving once again that you can put on a killer outdoor party and still be safe, the UBCO crew took all the right measures to ensure it was an epically fun yet safe night.
