2017-02-22 07:00:00 2017-02-22 09:30:00 America/Vancouver 3rd Annual Pink Shirt Day Breakfast Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs is celebrating Pink Shirt Day and the movement to create a kinder community.   Pink Shirt Day began when two Nova Scotia teens took a stand against bullying. They noticed a boy being bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. In response they purchased 50 pink tank tops and had their peers wear them the following day. The bullied boy felt supported by this action. Since that initial act of kindness, Pink Shirt Day has grown into a nationwide initiative. CKNW Orphan’s Fund has taken the idea and grown it into a campaign that helps thousands of children and youth each year.   “What is the solution to bullying? It’s simple: Kindness. Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs teach kids positive values to improve their relationships every day. It is not enough to say that bullying is bad and to stop dialogue there. Pink Shirt Day is a good reminder of the principle of treating others as one would wish to be treated,” said Diane Entwistle, CEO Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs. One of the events being hosted by Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs is the 3rd Annual Pink Shirt Day Breakfast presented by TELUS for community members on February 22. This is an exciting opportunity for businesses, service clubs, schools, and individuals to come out and support the Pink Shirt Day – Kindness Movement in Kelowna. photo contributed -  Dr. John-Tyler Binfet and Frances   UBC Okanagan professor Dr. John-Tyler Binfet will be the guest speaker.
