Tourette Syndrome or TS (or TS+) is a Neurodevelopmental or brain-based condition that affects approximately 1 in 200 people. Tourette Syndrome causes people who have it to make involuntary sounds or movements called tics. It is not uncommon for these people to also be affected by the symptoms of one or more of the associated conditions, including (but not limited to); anxiety, ADHD, OCD, depression, and sleep issues. This is known as Tourette Syndrome+ or TS+. Tourette Canada, formerly known as the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada, is a registered (11926 7862 RR0001) charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians affected by Tourette Syndrome (TS) and associated conditions (TS+). We're national in scope and volunteer based. Tourette Canada is comprised of: ~ A geographically diverse, volunteer Board of Directors; ~ Local volunteer affiliates including Chapters, Resource Units, and Contact Representatives; ~ A Professional Advisory Board made up of clinicians and other experts on TS from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom; and ~ A small paid staff who works out of the National Office located in Mississauga, Ontario. Through a national network of committed Affiliates, Tourette Canada provides a range of services to those living with Tourette Syndrome and their families. Our main goal is to create awareness and understanding of Tourette Syndrome through education, advocacy, support and the promotion of research. Tourette Canada operates without government funding and it is important to support them so they may continue to be available for the children, adults, families and communities who need them.
