BCAA Free Car Seat Recycling pilot program
Please register in advance: https://www.bcaa.com/community/child-car-seat-safety/child-car-seat-recycling
Drop-off at:
BCAA Kelowna Auto Service Centre
1545 Keehn Road (off Highway 97 and across from the Costco), Kelowna, BC V1X 5T5
Monday - Saturday (9:00am - 5:00pm)
With over 85,000 child car seats ending up in the landfill annually in BC, BCAA is launching a new pilot program to provide Kelowna families with a simple, environmentally sustainable way to dispose of used or expired child car seats.
BCAA is reminding parents that car seats do expire and after their expiration date they pose a safety threat for kids.
In response, BCAA has partnered up with ATMO Recycling (a social enterprise) and is covering the costs of recycling so parents can drop off expired car seats for free.
BCAA is also donating $5 per car seat to the Kelowna chapter of Mamas for Mamas, a non-profit which supports mothers and caregivers with programs and resources including access to safe transportation for children.
Car seats will go to a processing facility for dismantling into individual components, with recyclable parts processed accordingly to give them a second life.
