2017-12-07 12:00:00 2017-12-07 14:00:00 America/Vancouver Techstars Community Pilot Project | #OKGNtech Scorecard Review From August 28–September 7, Techstars’ Entrepreneur in Residence, Chris Heivly, was in the Okanagan as part of a worldwide community pilot project. Techstars – named by Forbes, TechCrunch and Inc. as one of the top accelerators in the U.S. – selected the Okanagan as the only Canadian region to participate in the community pilot project, which aims to support local entrepreneurs and establish a long-term working relationship between startup communities. During Heivly’s first visit he met with a number of startup founders in Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton and then developed a community assessment, measuring the Okanagan using a Techstars scorecard. The #OKGNtech Scorecard Review is your opportunity to hear Chris speak about the health of our community and get a first glance at the 3, 6 and 12-month community roadmap being proposed by the Techstars team. “We are confident that Chris Heivly’s insight will be valuable to us as our tech community continues to grow,” said Raghwa Gopal, CEO of Accelerate Okanagan. “The fact that we were chosen out of 20 applicants as one of five pilot locations is a testament to the vibrancy of our tech community.” The initiative has inspired much community support, with the following organizations acting as sponsors: Okanagan College, Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission, University of British Columbia Okanagan, Valley First Credit Union, City of Kelowna, Lawson Lundell LLP., WTFast, Strawhouse, Community Futures of Central Okanagan, Bananatag, Data Nerds, Nucleus Strategies. This community readout is a follow up to Chris’s trip to the Okanagan for two weeks this past summer. During his initial visit, Chris met with many community stakeholders and attended several events. These meetings and interactions helped to inform the assessment and roadmapping process, which ultimately is intended to showcase what is going well in the Okanagan tech community, but also areas for improvement and key focuses that we can take into account moving forward.
