2018-09-22 09:00:00 2018-09-22 16:00:00 America/Vancouver Entrepreneur Retreat So what the heck is this all about? Do you have a creative, entrepreneurial passion and are looking for advice or mentorship? Are you passionate about solving a big problem but don't know where to start or what tools to use to get going? Are you looking to connect with some incredible community leaders and grow your network? The Entrepreneur Retreat was created to act as an entrepreneurship launch pad. We are a group of hustlers and hackers that want to bring more thought leadership and networking opportunities to the Okanagan startup community, so we've designed this event to be an active and inspirational environment. We also want this to be open-source, meaning we encourage a heavy amount of participation and involvement. You will be able to help guide the workshops and ask any question about any topic you desire. Our hope is that entrepreneurs, business professionals, creatives and startup enthusiasts can all come together to learn, support, share ideas, connect and become motivated to act. The goal is for every attendee to feel inspired to create or build, have some tools to get started and feel connected to a network that can help guide and answer questions. The group will be divided into 3 groups that will rotate through each of the workshops throughout the day. After each workshop, we will regroup for the fireside chat with one of our speakers. Each Workshop is 45 minutes to teach you new & valuable skills Each interactive speaker engagement is 60 minutes Agenda: 9:00 AM: Check-in, connect with your community, and grab a free beverage and snack. 9:15 - 9:45 AM: Community Connect Activity led by Todd Embley (COO of HORIZONthree) 9:45 – 10:30 AM - Workshop 1 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM - Jason Kryski 11:30 AM – 12:15 AM - Workshop 2 12:15 – 1:00 PM - Lunch Break 1:00 – 2:00 PM - Speaker 2 2:00 – 2:45 PM - Workshop 3 3:00 - 4:00 PM - Brent Fikowski Workshop Leaders Sean Shepherd Sean specializes in helping organizations solve challenging problems through a collaborative and visual learning approach that ties directly to what their customers’ value, designing exceptional experiences for both customers and employees alike. She created the Stress Management through Awareness (SMA) program, which is based in neuroscience and addresses how stress affects the operations and productivity of a fast-paced organization. Joel Semeniuk Joel accelerates business modernization. That’s a lot of syllables for “he make change happen faster”. It’s what he does. Joel loves talking about it, teaching it, and helping startups and businesses unlock their potential. Since 1995, he's been examining and creating the methods, processes, and best practices for business innovation and have applied it to businesses of all sizes – from startups to mega-corporations. But even that’s too slow. He wants to influence change on a massive scale and create a tipping point for the future of work, which he believes is upon us all. So Joel founded HORIZONthree. Which is tackling the future of work from all angles – education, policy, and business. He takes a top down and bottoms up approach that gets businesses, educators, and policymakers thinking like investors and working like startups. By creating programming that’s accessible and scalable, we are democratizing innovation. HORIZONthree is so much more than an innovation accelerator. It is here to help take our customers from the foothills to the summit, and all the stops along the way. From ideation to validation, to commercialization and on to market expansion into Canada, Asia, and Europe, HORIZONthree only goal is to get you there so you can make a difference and earn your degree in Disruptology along the way. Speakers Brent Fikowski Formerly the financial controller at Strawhouse, Canada's Fastest-Growing Startup Company that quietly works alongside dozens of the world’s fastest-growing brands. The role has been acquired by the extremely talented Taiya Ahola, and Brent has moved to a part-time role. Strawhouse is ranked #1 on the 2017 STARTUP 50 ranking of Canada’s Top New Growth Companies by Canadian Business Magazine. We design compelling media to scale customer acquisition for disruptive companies. Now that Brent has reduced his working hours he is able to spend more time preparing to be the world's best CrossFit athlete. He has competed at the CrossFit Games the last three years in a row, finishing 4th, 2nd, and 4th respectively. He looks forward to the opportunities that excelling in this new sport will offer. Jason Kryski Jason is a serial entrepreneur - Most recently as founder of a new AI startup, Uncoil Inc, but probably best known for co-founding Strawhouse, the world's first Venture Growth Agency. He found his passion for business early and really haven't ever worked for someone else. While learning direct sales he discovered his love of psychology and sociology... that path led to sales training and recruiting. Jason started in marketing and advertising via affiliate marketing and quickly found he could apply his understanding of psychology to a broader audience. Leveraging performance compensation models, he has learned early on that when all parties interests are aligned; special things can happen. At Strawhouse they drive customer acquisition for venture and private-equity backed consumer-facing companies. Revenue driven? Hundreds of millions. Market value created? Billions. Jason likes to solve problems. Currently, he is focused on making it easier for direct to consumer businesses to start and grow.
