1969-12-31 19:30:00 1969-12-31 16:00:00 America/Vancouver Theatre Kelowna Society presents Good Ol' Country Comfort Theatre Kelowna Society’s fall shows in the Black Box Theatre are about nostalgia. We have presented shows featuring music and moments from the 1930’s through the 60’s and 70’s, and a faithful following has embraced the shows by selling out many of them. This year’s revue continues in the same tradition by featuring the songs of the artists who helped make country music a legitimate genre. In the initial stages it was simply called ‘Western” music, later becoming ‘Country & Western’. Nowadays it is usually called ‘Country’ music and although some artists still retain the western flavor, it is more a fusion of pop-rock and country with heavy electric musical arrangements. ‘Good Ol' Country Comfort’ will return to the roots, when artists performed with acoustic instruments and electric licks were lightly applied. It will feature the music of such great artists as Ray Price, Eddie Arnold, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, Kitty Wells, Don Williams, Merle Haggard and others, along with those who helped establish the sound, Hank William and The Sons of the Pioneers. Written and directed once again by Jeff Samin, the cast will feature familiar faces such as Debby Helf, Corinne Marks, Ashley Lewicki, Gloria Poulette, Shannon Bracken, Ian Krebs and Rob Crawford, along with newcomers to TKS, Darryl Davies and Rick and Pat Jones. As usual, the show will contain the humour that was featured in such shows as ‘Hee Haw’ and we may even have a special guest appearance by Minnie Pearl. Seating is limited at the Black Box and these shows are very popular, so book early to avoid disappointment. Kelowna Community Theatre, Black Box Theatre 1375 Water St events@kelownanow.com
