The Kelowna Folk Club presents Carrie Elkin
Austin, Texas artist, Carrie Elkin is touring in support of her new album The Penny
Collector and she is bringing her equally talented husband Danny Schmidt. The two are
becoming quite the phenoms in the Americana music scene.
Carrie Elkin is one of those rare artists with a tidal wave singing voice, and a stage
whisper writing voice that brings you to the edge of your seat. Maverick Magazine said
it best, after a recent festival performance: "I have never seen a performer so in love
with the act of singing. That's the gospel truth. Onstage, Elkin was simply a force of
nature."
Carrie’s fourth release, The Penny Collector, resounds with a sense of warm, earthy
poetry that combines her strong folk/soul base and her sweet–toned vocals with her
sometimes offbeat writing.
Danny Schmidt was named to the Chicago Tribune's “50 Most Significant Songwriters
in the Last 50 Years,”, Austin, TX-based singer/songwriter Danny Schmidt has been
rapidly ascending from underground cult hero status to being recognized as an artist of
generational significance.
Come out and experience Austin’s first family of Folk Music. It's a special treat when
Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin, who normally tour separately and solo, share the stage
together. If the chemistry seems especially amorous, they come by it honestly, as they
are a rare breed: a romantic partnership in real life, as well as musical life.
$20.00 tickets are available at ABC Hobby in Kelowna or Mad Hatter Bookstore in West
Kelowna (cash only please) as well as online at kelownafolkclub.ca starting June 9.
