2019-11-09 14:00:00 2019-11-09 15:00:00 America/Vancouver Over the Top Presented by Carla-Jean Stokes, MA, Curator (Historic O’Keefe Ranch) Discover fact and fiction behind some of WWI’s iconic photographs in this eye-opening presentation. Carla-Jean’s presentation will focus on the work of famous war photographer Ivor Castle, including the myth of the photograph ‘Over the Top,’ which is now known to have been staged. Bio : Carla-Jean Stokes joined O’Keefe Ranch in 2016 and manages the artifact collection, archives, and exhibitions. She received her Masters of History at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2011 and went on to receive a Masters of Photographic Preservation and Collections Management at Ryerson University in 2015. In the same year, she won the Photographic Historical Society of Canada thesis prize for her paper, “British Official First World War Photographs, 1916-1918: Arranging and Contextualizing a Collection of Prints at the Art Gallery of Ontario.” Carla-Jean has given lectures on war photography and has written articles for the Laurier Centre for Military and Strategic Disarmament Studies’ journal Canadian Military History, Espirit de Corps magazine, and Legion magazine.
