2021-06-24 11:00:00 2021-06-24 18:00:00 America/Vancouver Legroom For Daydreaming by Levi Glass // Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art Now on view in the Main Gallery of the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art, Levi Glass’ solo exhibition 'Legroom for Daydreaming' explores the alternative form and function of common objects as pseudo-technological devices. As a Canadian artist of Métis and German descent, Glass has found his own hybrid European and Métis identity to be at the root of his interest in altering common household items. Familiar yet strange, the works in this exhibition changes consumer material into failed-luxury objects to provide a dissimilar experience of the domestic objects we are accustomed to interacting with. The alterations that Glass has made to the objects creates curious, often humorous, situations where the line between image and object is blurred, and warrants leisure and interaction. As Glass describes: “'Legroom for Daydreaming' directly mimics my interest in European Salon culture, where a group of people would watch demonstrations of an experimental device as a way to come up with explanations of phenomena together. I seek to link this concept further by generating work and exhibitions that combine research and platforms for audiences to see and discuss acts of play and failure.” 'Legroom for Daydreaming' will be on view in the Main Gallery of the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art until July 3, 2021. For more information, visit www.alternatorcentre.com. The Alternator is open Tuesday - Friday, 11am - 6pm and Saturday 11am - 4pm.
