One on One: Inheritance: Amy Malbeuf Curated by Cathy Mattes
This year the Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to be working with independent curator Cathy Mattes, who is based in Sprucewoods, Manitoba. She is a Michif curator, writer, and art history professor at Brandon University, in Brandon, Manitoba. Mattes has elected to work with Amy Malbeuf, who is a Métis visual artist from Rich Lake, Alberta.
Mattes writes: “The exhibition will contain mixed-media works that evoke contemplation about the value of personal, cultural, and artistic inheritance to Indigenous artists.”
As with all of our One on One projects, the show will be accompanied by a web-based publication, which features a curatorial text, the curator’s and artist’s biographies, and installation images.
Opening Reception
Friday, March 31, 7 to 9 pm
This is a free event, open to members and guests by invitation.
Tour and Talk: Saturday, April 1, 2 to 4 pm
Join Amy Malbeuf and Cathy Mattes for an illustrated talk and a tour of their exhibition. This event is free and open to the public.
Photo Credit: Example of work by Amy Malbeuf: Coyote, rabbit, fox, muskrat, skunk, beaver. 2014, furs, rope, safety vests, wood. Photos: M N Hutchinson.
