As a major part of the Beast Weekend, the 3-day Beast International Environmental Film Festival showcases docs, shorts and live presentations on the fashion industry, activists, eco enthusiasts and environmental solutions. Featuring films from the Environmental Film Festival Australia (EFFA), Claudia Franzen (Thailand and Myanmar) and Dave Mai ( Canada). The Environmental Film Festival Australia (EFFA) . This Melbourne-based non-profit, volunteer-driven organization does a fantastic job of promoting sustainability through original narratives that traverse the relationship between humans and their environments. The Beast includes 22 EFFA shorts and 3 feature-length documentaries. Claudia Franzen created and directed the award-winning short, The Art Of Living While Being Left Behind, a story of a family who lives and works at one of Yangon’s massive dump sites. Claudia is well-known in Myanmar for her work with the environmental group Thant Myanmar and has created several promotional clips for ChuChu. All will be shown at the Beast Film Festival. Dave Mai (DM Productions) is a local videographer and climber (Penticton) whose outdoor films and shorts have been featured on TV and in juried film festivals. The Beast includes DM Productions’ Higher Perspective and Stokanagan, shot in the Okanagan and featuring incredible rock climbing cinematography. The Beast live presentations include KSS Thrifty Thursday, winners of Global Citizen Kelowna’s United Nations Sustainable Development Goals competition for secondary students. Global Citizen promotes and celebrates humanitarian efforts of Okanagan people. Tickets for the Beast Weekend are $20 day and $50 for the weekend pass, and can be purchased through the Rotary Centre For The Arts.
