Fernie at War:1914-1919 Author Presentation
Fernie, a small community located in BC’s Kootenay region, entered the First World War in 1914 with optimism and a sense of national pride—it emerged five years later having experienced staggering losses and multiple controversies that threatened to tear their community apart.
Join author Wayne Norton as he unpacks the impacts of Fernie’s exceptionally high recruitment levels, demands for internment of enemy aliens, resistance to prohibition, as well as the consequences of natural and man-made disasters.
Wayne will also speak to Kelowna’s history and relationship to Fernie during these formative and turbulent times.
