2017-10-27 18:00:00 2017-10-27 16:00:00 America/Vancouver Pomme Salon presents: Gabrielle Sawatzky shaves her head for cancer When I was around two or three years old, my grandmother passed away from breast cancer. to those around her, she was known as one of the happiest and most amazing people, and even though I was so young, I somehow have faint memories of her.  An estimated 26,300 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,000 will die from it in Canada. Approximately 72 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day and roughly 14  will die of breast cancer every day. 1 in 98 women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime and 1 in 29 will die from it. It is expected that 230 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 60 will die from it.  Every year, over 40,000 people die of breast cancer in the U.S. alone - some young and some old. About 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer at some point. 252,710 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., as well as 63,410 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. Approximately 2,470 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in men in 2017.  My name is Gabrielle and I am currently living in Kelowna, BC. I am 18 years old, and working as a hairdressing assistant/makeup artist. At the end of October (breast cancer awareness month) I will be shaving my head and donating my hair as well as raising money to donate to breast cancer research. I will have updates as well as a livestream of my head being shaved on Pomme Salon's instagram page  (@pommesalon) as well as my own (@gabrielle_kayla). I appreciate all donations and so will the people receiving! Every donation makes a difference no matter how big or small! We become one step closer with every penny.
