A ski resort in Alberta will feature Canada’s only heated chair lift, which will keep bums warm while arriving at the top of the mountain.
Sunshine Village will debut Canada’s first heated chair lift this winter at Teepee Town LX. The chair lift will not only have heated seats, but will also include orange bubble covers and foot rests. The concept comes from Europe and will be introduced at the ski resort for the 2015-2016 season.
The new lift will move around 1,200 people per hour uphill at a speed of 1,000 feet per minute. The state-of-the-art lift was designed and built by Austrian company Doppelmayr. Parts of the new lift were sourced from Germany, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States.
The seats are energized in the lower terminal and deactivates when the chair leaves. The chairs have smart technology as it can sense when it is empty, and automatically closes the bubble. During the summer the heated seats will be deactivated to save energy.
