Next time you’re at the bar and you think your beer is under poured, there is something you can do about it.
A pint is a defined unit of measurement that equals 20 fluid ounces.
If a pub or restaurant pours you a pint that is less than that size, you’re actually allowed to report it to the Measurement Canada website.
When you receive an inaccurate measurement as part of a transaction, that’s when you can file an official complaint to Measurement Canada.
This includes complaints about sales to do with gas, electricity and natural gas, food, beer and more.
The government agency admits that you should always “attempt to resolve the matter with the other party in the transaction prior to filing a complaint.”
If that is unsuccessful, however, Measurement Canada will investigate any complaints made.
You should also remember that there’s a limit of error of 0.5 fluid ounces on pints of beer, so if your beer is only a splash or two under 20 fluid ounces, you shouldn’t bother complaining.
