Jeff Barnett

What do you always find yourself saying?
“I got this!”

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Easily my daughter Faye. She has made all hard work and sacrifices more than worth it.

If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
I'm not much for awards. But my greatest reward is seeing my patients smile after recovering from a debilitating injury, or helping them accomplish a specific health or performance goal. That's enough of an award for me.

If you could spend a day with any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
Nelson Mandela. Considering the struggles he went through in his life, he showed amazing perseverance, determination, and hope.

Who inspires you?
My wonderful wife Anita. We were fortunate enough to meet back in high school in Calgary. She continues to motivate me to this day to always do and be my best. All I can say is we've been through a lot together.

What are three things on your bucket list?
1. Hike up Machu Picchu in Peru.
2. Hike the West Coast Trail (again) with my daughter (hopefully I can still keep up to her by then!).
3. Take a road trip across Canada to fully appreciate Canada's diversity of culture and geography.

If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
“Ambition”. Ambition in career, family, and life. Ambition is how I get to where I'm going.

If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
The day I sail on Ambition for the first time!

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about helping others to lead a happier and healthier life.

What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
The birth of my daughter over four years ago forever changed the path of my life. Knowing that I was now truly responsible for someone other then myself was very humbling.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
That's a three part answer:
1. Marrying the best partner in life I could every hope for.
2. Holding my daughter for the first time.
3. Graduating from chiropractic school after eight years of post-secondary education.

Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna? What do you like about it?
Hands down Pho Soc Trang Vietnamese Cuisine on Water Street! For my wife and I, Vietnamese food is comfort food. The staff are amazing and have watched our daughter grow from just a "baby bump" to the current four year old pho eating machine she is today!

What is your favourite activity or event in Kelowna? Why?
Hiking in the many amazing parks in the Kelowna and surrounding area. There's nothing better then hiking to the top of Knox Mountain and taking in the beauty that surrounds us!

What is your mission?
To inspire others to take control of their health! To not let injury or illness control their lives, and instead invest that energy into creating positive change both physically and mentally.

If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
To have an influential roll in creating a truly integrative and affordable healthcare system that has an equal emphasis on proactive wellness care, and reactive injury/illness care.

Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
To build on our current level of leading edge healthcare by offering additional healthcare services.

Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
Gray Cook. Even though he is a physiotherapist, he has helped lead the paradigm shift in functional medicine. His philosophy has greatly influenced how I practice.

What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
Compassion, knowledge, and inspiration!

What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
The staff at OCW are awesome! They deal with all the difficult stuff at the front of the office so that I can focus all my energy on making my patients well. For that I offer a lifetime of thanks.

How does your business/organization impact the community?
We do our best to educate our patients on the benefits of living a healthy and balanced lifestyle. This in turn inspires them to share that knowledge with others.

If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
There's an elevator in Kelowna? Must be a Landmark thing.

If I could change one thing about Kelowna, it would be:
To add a highway bypass around Kelowna. More locals would feel motivated to visit our amazing downtown and lakefront if the traffic along Highway 97 wasn't so nuts!

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The people and our picturesque environment. Being originally from Calgary, Kelowna became home very quickly because of all of the wonderful people I've met.

The environment around us speaks for itself, but we are blessed and spoiled to be surrounded by nature’s playground!

Some general comments I would like to share are:
I have been truly blessed in my journey through my education and career thus far. I've met so many amazing people who have helped me along the way, and I just hope when I take my last breath that I have left everything on the table with no regrets.
