In Focus | Amber Hall

Meet Amber Hall. She was born in the lower mainland and has lived in Kelowna on and off since 1994.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
As cheesy as it sounds, my husband Mike. He always makes me smile, even when he's driving me up the wall.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
That's a tough one! There are so many great local stores, The Zen Den, Blonde, Ashbury's Attic, Pinned... I can't pick just one!

Describe yourself in one word.
Authentic.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Greece. I've always wanted to go there!

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Theatre!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Recently? Probably a typo I made in a private theatre group facebook page. I forgot a crucial letter when offering to bring food in my crockpot.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I am fortunate to be inspired daily by my community. I get to witness truly selfless acts all the time!

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I don't know if I have just one. My sister and I joke that all I remember about my childhood was rainbows and unicorns. I do have really great memories of lazy summer days spent at the cabin at Long Lake MB, singing Nitty Gritty Dirt Band while trying not to get flung off the tube!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I volunteer on the Board of Director and at the Theatre Kelowna Society. I also volunteer in their winter production every year. This year was particularly fun in my role as Porky Pig in the Big Bad Wolf. It's a really cool feeling to watch the faces in the audience, and nothing beats making people laugh!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I'd take kindness and sprinkle that stuff everywhere!

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
If I told you I wouldn't be alone now would I?

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would like to continue to see the positive changes we are making in providing solutions to our city's affordable housing issues.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The people!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Visit Greece
2. Learn to drum
3. Laugh every day

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I was a child actress in a little-known show called Beans Baxter that was filmed in Vancouver.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Telus.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I recently transitioned to the role of Senior Regional Market Manager to take my career to the next level.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Balance. It always seems to be feast or famine in my career. I am truly lucky to work for Telus as they have such an amazing work styles program.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
All the same! I may not have always done the best or right thing but at the end of it all, I'm pretty happy with myself and my life. If I started all over again, I might not be this person.

What do you always find yourself saying?
'No worries'

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Life is about choices. Choose to love the one you're with, choose to practice self-love, choose kindness over hatred. It's a choice to live your best life.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
My Grammie. She passed away when I was 17 and I think she had so many lessons to teach me. She leads a very interesting life and I'd have loved the opportunity to hear more of it first hand.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
You grow your community by supporting those in it. What better way to do that than to support their businesses!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My kids.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
I'd like to give a big shout out to Shannon Crabbe for opening Oxygen Yoga and Fitness on the westside! She is a truly passionate woman who builds people up and is always looking for an opportunity to make a difference.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Jenelle Hynes from Pacific Coastal, Tamara Logan from The Zen Den and Shannon Crabbe from Oxygen Fitness West Kelowna.
