Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

We've lived here since 2001. Before that in Calgary, Vancouver and Switzerland.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?

We spend a lot of time with one another. It's rare that a couple likes to work and play together, but we do.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?

We get all our food at Nature's Fare. They have everything a healthy person wants to eat and lots of treats too!

Describe yourself in one word.

Music.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?

We're about to do a concert entirely devoted to the music of Italy from the 1500s to the early 19th Century. Italy has such a diverse and vital culture, great food and artists, writers, fantastic geography. That's going to be the next visit.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?

Swimming in the lake during the summer. Nothing beats that for a feeling of freedom, leisure, exercise and all around well-being. It's one of the best reasons to live here.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

We've embarrassed ourselves innumerable times in concert! The thing is, we were the only ones who noticed it. That's the thing about embarrassment, it's usually imagined.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?

We get inspiration from so many things: the music we play, the instruments, and even the students. When we were students we had the opportunity to study with great musicians, to hear them perform, and to tour around and see great buildings and pictures. One never forgets an experience like that, and it always stays with you.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.

I remember coming to Kelowna as a child, eating a lot of fruit, swimming, watching the boats and the sunsets. That stayed with me, and it's one reason we chose to live here.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?

We are fortunate to have formed a non-profit Society many years ago, which allows us to perform and work within a volunteer-driven environment. We can apply for funds from the City, for example, and receive donations. When we do the actual work, we spend many unpaid hours of practice time and a lot of time devoted to getting and maintaining an audience. We get paid to play, but it really only covers the time you spend on stage. We also spend a lot of time making videos and recordings, and with the way music is delivered now, mostly streaming, the musician makes almost nothing. I never thought of music as a charity, but that's the way it's turned out.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?

We would like to see noise included in the long list of pollutants in our world and be dealt with accordingly. We live with far too much of it, from vehicles to appliances.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?

We love spending time at the beach, watching the water, looking at the mountains, seeing kids having fun, and having some fun ourselves. Kalamoir Park is a big part of every summer for us.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?

We think it would be great if Highway 97 were managed better. It bisects our community and where we live in West Kelowna, and there is not a priority to mitigate its visual and noise and air pollution. Through Kelowna there are no barriers or other features, the speed limits are ignored, there are no cameras for speed. Other cities recognize the importance of moderating the effect of transportation, but in Kelowna we have only begun to limit the damage.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?

Kelowna has a wonderful atmosphere. Physically it's beautiful and so varied in geography. The people are so warm and friendly, and we always feel at home in front of our audience. We get a strong feeling of acceptance that we struggled with before.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

Visit to the Mediterranean, especially Rome and Athens.

Touring the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Seeing the Mayan ruins in Central America.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.

We like chocolate far too much for our own good.
