Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born and raised in beautiful Saskatoon Saskatchewan and spent 22 years of my life there. Followed by 4 years in Atlanta Georgia, before moving to Kelowna in January 2019.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with?
My favourite person to spend time with is my lovely common law & business partner Dr. Em Burton and our beautiful goldendoodle Stella. Why? Because I can't imagine life without them... we enjoy every moment (seriously almost every moment haha) we get together!

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Mad Mango because... LAKSA IS THE BOMB!!

Describe yourself in one word.
Goofy.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I would go back to SE Asia, I spent 2 months back-packing around Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia and I absolutely loved the culture. I feel that there is so much more to see and do and I want to take Emily outside North America!

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Love a good competitive game of spike ball on the beach... best of 20 series anyone?

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I'm not really a person who gets easily embarrassed. I grew up with two older brothers and a great friend group. Poking fun at each other was part of the friendship, so I think it taught me to brush things off instead of getting embarrassed.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I went to an Ultimate Breakthrough Seminar where I walked barefoot across 10ft of broken glass, 15ft of burning hot coals, I bent rebar with my neck, and much more! if you want info on the seminar message me on Instagram.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Some of my favourite memories involve finishing the school year and spending almost every single summer day at our cabins at Attons Lake in Saskatchewan and Brereton Lake in Manitoba. We still make it a point to visit both places at least once a year, and it's a tradition I plan to continue to carry on the memories.

Where do you volunteer or give back in the community?
I go monthly to the Gospel Mission and give free chiropractic treatments to those who can't afford regular care. It's a great way to connect and hear people's stories.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I realllly wish I could sing and play acoustic guitar. Kent Rempel aka The New John Mayer.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Find me a secluded trail (so many to choose from), strap on the runners and go for a run. I find trail running a meditative experience where I can disconnect and just RUN!

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would love to eventually see another bridge built to allow for a highway 97 bypass. One complaint people have about Kelowna and West Kelowna, especially as the cities continue growing, is the "Harvey traffic/bridge traffic." I lived for four years in Atlanta, GA and the traffic here definitely doesn't compare, but I think this would significantly reduce traffic and make driving safer through Kelowna.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Kelowna literally has everything. Hot summers with a lake and beaches, mild winters surrounded by amazing ski resorts, and all the local wineries your heart could desire.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Run an ironman triathlon 2. Do an extended yoga retreat in India 3. Go into space (I really hope in my lifetime this will be possible.)

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I get called Conor McGregor at least once per week.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)

What is the name of your business/organization?
LifeWorks Family Chiropractic

<who> Photo Credit: Kent Rempel

Why did you get into/start this business?
Dr. Em and myself planned on opening our own chiropractic office until we were introduced to LifeWorks Family Chiropractic. We loved the way Dr. James set up the practice and his vision aligned so perfectly with ours. It was an opportunity we couldn't pass up, and we have enjoyed growing the practice alongside him.

What is the goal of your business?
Our goal is to help as many people as we can express their full inborn healing potential. We believe everyone deserves to live a happy, healthy life and thrive... not just survive!

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
WAKING UP EARLY. It took me 4 years of chiropractic school with 7am classes to train myself to wake up at 6-6:30am. I now naturally wake up at 6:30 without an alarm. Now I have to wake up at 5:30am and that extra hour is not easy for me. I am slowly working on becoming a member of the 5am club to "own my day", but WOW is it hard.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
The only thing that hurts is making Canadian dollar and paying back USA loans haha. In all honesty no, I am extremely happy in Kelowna and I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. If I am here it is because I am meant to be here!

What do you always find yourself saying?
"Ahh f***!" Haha, Emily will say that I often over-exaggerate about something minor. For example: I emptied the dishwasher yesterday and spilled a bit of water on my foot. Me: "Ah f***"!" Emily: "What! what!" (thinking I cut my finger off or something)

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Eat healthy, move, breath, meditate, get adjusted! Self care shouldn't come when we are diagnosed with a disease or have pain, it should start now. Our bodies are simply vessels that allow us to experience life. Take care of them NOW so you can enjoy every single day you have!!

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Dr. Joe Dispenza, a fellow chiropractor and neuroscientist focussing on the power of the mind-body connection to heal all things. I would love to follow in his foot steps and learn how he got to where he is today.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
For one when you shop locally you support your friends, neighbours and local economy as opposed to boosting the "power houses" of the world. For two, if talking groceries, they are less processed, locally grown and 100x better for you than the factory produced highly processed groceries.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Graduating with honours from Life University and becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic. 8 years in the making, 1000's of exams including board exams in USA and Canada. It was far from a cake walk!

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
My Mom and Dad, they have supported me on all my journeys. I 100% guarantee I would not be where I am today without their full support and guidance every step of the way! Thank you so much Mom and Dad.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
